The Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has been named the AFC Offensive Player of the Month, tying Peyton Manning for the most monthly awards in history, but you know that Brady would trade them all for another victory.
Brady won the award for the month of October without having won any of the weekly prizes. Brady posted the 4th best October by a quarterback all time, which is why he probably narrowly edged out Peyton for the title (Peyton posted the 6th best October all time).
Here's how the month played out.
Week 5: Coming off the tails of a terrible beatdown by Kansas City, Brady faces the Bengals and their #1 (at the time) ranked defense and goes 23/35 (65.7%), 292 yards, 2 touchdowns and no interceptions for a passer rating of 110.7. The Patriots win.
The Broncos wide receiver Demaryius Thomas caught eight passes for 226 yards and two touchdowns to win the weekly award.
Week 6: The Bengals lost their top defense ranking after the Patriots victory, and the Bills took the top spot. Brady had an even better game in Buffalo, going 27/37 (73.0%), for 361 yards, 4 touchdowns, and no interceptions for a passer rating of 139.6. The Patriots win.
The Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco threw 21/29 for 306 yards and five touchdowns to win the award.
Week 7: Brady "struggled" against the Jets, going 20/37 (54.1%) for 261 yards, 3 touchdowns and no interceptions for a passer rating of 103.5. The Patriots win.
The Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning went 22/26 (84.6%) for 318 yards, 4 touchdowns and no interceptions and a near perfect 157.2 passer rating- oh, and he passed the all time mark for passing touchdowns.
Week 8: Touchdown Tom destroyed the Bears to the tune of 30/35 (85.7%), 354 yards, 5 touchdowns and no interceptions. That's a passer rating of 148.4. He would win the weekly award almost every single time with that stat line.
The Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger overshadowed Brady's performance with a 40/49 (81.6%) performance for 522 yards, 6 touchdowns and 0 interceptions for a 150.6 passer rating.
Brady, rightfully, didn't win any single week, but his consistency over the course of the whole month was beautiful to behold. Congrats to Tom for winning the monthly title.
But it looks like we're on to Denver.
