Patriots safety Devin McCourty was knocked out with a rib injury in the second quarter of the team's 43-17 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals Sunday Night. Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald has provided us an update on McCourty's status:
The initial tests on safety Devin McCourty did not reveal any broken bones, and he is expected to be OK after suffering a rib injury tonight against the Bengals, according to a source. Further tests could be coming.
The Patriots inserted Duron Harmon into the game in McCourty's stead and the results were mixed. Harmon didn't exactly play poorly, but the Bengals did attack the Patriots deep a few times.
When both McCourty and Darrelle Revis went down with injury, it looked like the Patriots would be put in a bad spot. Fortunately, it appears that both Revis and McCourty dodged anything serious.
With Brandon Browner likely joining the active roster this week, we may finally get our first full look at the team's hyped secondary this Sunday against Kyle Orton and the Bills.
