Julian Edelman Named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week

The Patriots punt return wins the award for the AFC's best special teams work in Week 9.

Greg M. Cooper-USA TODAY Sports

Maybe he's not the best punt returner of all time. At least he's the best special teams player for the week.

Julian Edelman wins again.

The Patriots run returner took a 84 yard punt return to the house for a touchdown and helped spark the downfall of the Denver Broncos. Oddly enough it was Edelman's only punt return on the day.

Edelman is the second Patriot to win AFC Special Teams Player of the Week this season, after Chris Jones and his blocked field goal against the Jets. It could be argued that Chandler Jones' AFC Defensive Player of the Week award from the Minnesota game is heavily influenced by his blocked kick and subsequent return for a touchdown.

When the Patriots are playing well, they're receiving contributions from all three facets of the game. It's always great to see New England putting up special teams points and it's usually Julian Edelman at the heart of the scoring.

Congratulations to Edelman for his well deserved reward.
