Alfonzo Dennard to IR

Brad Barr-USA TODAY Sports

According to ESPN's Field Yates, Alfonzo Dennard's season is over. He has been placed on IR with what has been called a hamstring injury.

Dennard saw time early in the year, but his playing time diminished considerably as the season wore on and has has been a healthy scratch for most games. Look for both Logan Ryan and Malcolm Butler to continue seeing time as Dennard recovers from what is more likely a mild case of the Foxboro Flu. Losing Dennard isn't much of a blow, as the Patriots have been without his services for most of the time anyway, but cornerback is always a good position to have lots of depth. Brandon Browner might sit against Buffalo, as he was limited all week in practice, and so the Patriots could be stretched thin at the position for the season finale against the Buffalo Bills.

In a corresponding move, wide receiver Josh Boyce has been promoted from the practice squad to the active roster. With tomorrow's game meaning absolutely nothing for the Patriots, Boyce could see extended snaps in place of the regular starters. Hopefully he'll make the most of the time he's given and prove to the coaching staff that he was worth a fourth round pick in last year's draft.
