Yesterday evening, the New England Patriots made their biggest free agent splash in recent memory by coming to terms with All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis. As it turns out, the team might not be done adding All-Pros at the position just yet, as former Seahawks cornerback Brandon Browner will visit with the team today according to multiple reports (Fox 25 was first).
Browner, 29, was suspended indefinitely by the NFL after failing the league's substance abuse policy in 2013. He was reinstated by the league earlier this month, but will be suspended for the first four games of the 2014 NFL season and forfeit another four game checks.
Because of these circumstances, Browner is expected to come on the cheap in what would likely be a one year, "prove it" deal. After the success that Aqib Talib had in a similar situation in New England, things could materialize quickly with Browner.
At 6'4" and 221 lbs, Browner is one of the most physically intimidating press cornerbacks in all of football. He played in eight games in 2013, grading positively in coverage and allowing just 52.6% of passes thrown his way to be completed. For nearly three years, Browner played High-level football across from perhaps the best cornerback in the game in Richard Sherman. If he signs in New England, he could have the opportunity to do just that across from the other best cornerback in football in Darrelle Revis.
