The New England Patriots officially released veteran defensive tackle Tommy Kelly yesterday. According to a AZCentral's Kent Somers, he's already receiving strong interest, from the Cardinals:
#azcardinals bringing in DT Tommy Kelly tonight/tomorrow. Taking a look. cut by Pats.

This news doesn't bode well for those wishing to see Tommy Kelly return to the Patriots at some point. It also shouldn't come as a surprise. Kelly showed this training camp and preseason that he certainly still has the ability to play a significant role in this league.
However, if the Patriots had planned on bringing back Kelly, they probably would have waited until right before the final cutdowns to let him go. By releasing him when they did, the gave him a chance to latch on elsewhere. If things go right for Kelly, he could end up being a key cog on a Cardinals defensive line that just lost a starter in Darnell Dockett.
