The New England Patriots are expected to announce their roster cuts shortly, but reports of some of the team moves have begun to trickle in. Here are a few of the moves:
rookie LB Deonte Skinner among #Patriots cuts, via league source— shalise manza young (@shalisemyoung) August 26, 2014
Tyler Gaffney will be placed on injured reserve today, according to a source.— Jeff Howe (@jeffphowe) August 26, 2014
WR Derrick Johnson will be released by the #Patriots today, per a league source.— Christopher Price (@cpriceNFL) August 26, 2014
Can confirm reports WR Wilson Van Hooser will be released.— Christopher Price (@cpriceNFL) August 26, 2014
None of these moves come as a major surprise. All along, we knew the Patriots would place the injured Gaffney at the first chance to do so without him passing back through waivers. Derrick Johnson, Wilson Van Hooser, and Deonte Skinner were all long shots to make the final roster. All three players do maintain practice squad eligibility, however.
