New England Patriots' rookie defensive tackle Dominique Easley won't be suiting up for the team in a game this preseason. According to Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald, Easley will sit out the team's preseason finale vs. the Giants:
Patriots first-round pick Dominique Easley will miss his fourth and final preseason game tomorrow night against the Giants at MetLife Stadium, according to a source.
While nothing is set in stone, the hope remains the defensive lineman will be ready for the regular-season opener Sept. 7 in Miami. That's been the apparent plan all along.
At this point, it's hard to know exactly what to expect from Easley early in the season. Many expected him to be a key contributor in sub-packages this year, and despite missing the preseason, I'm not sure that expectation should change.
Easley will likely be eased into the mix when he is ready for game action. But I don't think 20-25 snaps, even early in the season, is an unrealistic expectation. With Tommy Kelly gone, the Patriots will be relying on Easley to push the pocket on passing downs. Sealver Siliga is the favorite to see 1st and 2nd down snaps next to Vince Wilfork.
