The first big waiver period of the year now behind us, and all 19 players cut by New England have cleared. Bill Belichick can now bring anybody and everybody he wants to back to the team as members of the practice squad. New England has already begun filling up the 10 man unit, signing running back Jonas Gray as well as linebacker Ja'Gared Davis and quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson, which means that as of now there are seven open spots.
Early reports state that neither Jeremy Gallon nor Steve Beauharnais are expected to sign with the team, and running back Roy Finch remains unsigned as well. Josh Boyce is a prime candidate, as he did show flashes last season and the team thought enough of him to draft in in the 4th round of the 2014 draft. Other prime PS candidates are center Braxton Cave, cornerback Daxton Swanson, DT Jerel Worthy, and tight end Steve Maneri.
Of course, there are also the cuts made by other teams around the league to consider, so there is no guarantee any of the players who wore a Patriots uniform this preseason will be back with the squad at all. Still, Boyce seems like a safe bet, and perhaps even newly acquired defensive lineman Kelsey Quarles, so be sure to check back early and often for updates.
