Under most circumstances, if you were to tell me that the Patriots wouldn't have to worry about Adrian Peterson, I would be extremely happy.
Peterson has been deactivated from the gameday roster following today's child abuse charges. He recently turned himself in to authorities after being indicted by a grand jury in Montogomery County, Texas. Up until just now, it looked like Peterson had every intention of playing on Sunday, but a recent turn of events has left the Vikings without their best player. And while stopping the run just got significantly easier for the Patriots, it's hard to get too excited over traveling to Minnesota to face an AP-less Vikings team in the wake of this still-breaking story.
The week of September 12th, 2014 will go down as one of the darkest in NFL history. Coming right on the heels of some absolutely horrific video footage that shows Ray Rice knocking out his fiance, there is now photographic evidence of Peterson's son sporting a disgusting number of cuts, welts, and bruises on his arms and face. When we should all be gearing up for another great slate of games that serve as an escape from the misery that bombards us every day on news channels everywhere, we instead find ourselves enraged that yet another athlete cannot hold to the very simple yet very basic code of human decency that you do not strike another individual that is weaker than you. It's almost enough to make me not even want to watch anymore.
