Patriots Waive Kelcy, Quarles; Close to Re-Signing LS Aiken

The Patriots reportedly made several moves Wednesday evening, as the pre-week 1 roster shaping continues.

The New England Patriots have reportedly made a few roster moves this evening - ones that will help sort out some of the unbalanced positions on the roster.

First, the team released both of the rookie defensive tackles that they had claimed off of waivers earlier this week: Kelcy Quarles and Bruce Gaston. The Patriots will likely hope they can slide one or both players onto their practice squad, but they may not slide through waivers. Props to our own Richard Hill, for predicting these moves yesterday.

The Patriots also released long snapper Charley Hughlett from the practice squad. According to Mike Reiss of ESPN Boston, the team is close to re-signing Danny Aiken to take back the job he may have, at least technically, temporarily lost.

If the Patriots re-sign Aiken, that will leave them with one open spot on their 53 man roster. Expect that spot to go to a linebacker, with Ja'Gared Davis and Chris White being the strongest candidates.
