Now that the Patriots have announced their inactives for their week one match-up against the Miami Dolphins, we present our start / sit advice:
Start
Tom Brady: Despite the calf injury and the apparent brace Brady will be wearing today, he's a safe bet to play vs. the Dolphins secondary. With Gronkowski active, he could very well be throwing the ball frequently in the red zone.
Stevan Ridley: James White is inactive, and that's a vote of confidence in Stevan Ridley. He's the Patriots early down back, and could see some goal line touches.
Julian Edelman: He's the only sure thing the Patriots have at wide receiver right now. Gronk will be limited, and we still don't know how the Amendola / Thompkins / LaFell depth chart will sort itself out quite yet.
Shane Vereen: Risky play in standard formats, but is a safe bet in PPR. Without White playing, he'll see a ton of reps in passing situations.
Sit
Rob Gronkowski: Coin flip. I'll be starting him in one of my leagues, but that's because I didn't draft a layer of insurance. He could get a few red zone opportunities, but that makes him a high risk / high reward player.
Danny Amendola / Kenbrell Thompkins / Brandon LaFell: One of these players will become a very good play in just a few weeks. But until we know how this depth chart will sort itself out, all of these guys are a risk.
Tim Wright: He could become a good play, but we don't know his role yet, even with Gronkowski being limited.
