With their 45-7 thrashing of the Indianapolis Colts, the New England Patriots are moving onto Super Bowl XLIX. Their opponent: the defending Super Bowl Champions, the Seattle Seahawks.
As the Patriots were in the AFC, the Seahawks are the NFC's #1 seed. That means for the first time in NFL history, the top seeds from both conferences will be facing off in the Super Bowl in consecutive seasons.
Seattle's path to the Super Bowl has been remarkably similar to the Patriots'. Like New England, Seattle got off to a rocky start to the 2014 regular season. They started the season 3-3, and many were counting them out in the NFC. Since then? They've won 11 of 12 games.
Yesterday, against the Green Bay Packers, they trailed 16-0 in the second half and 19-7 with just over five minutes to go in the game. However, with a bit of luck and a lot of grit, they came away with an improbable 28-22 victory in overtime on a walk-off Russell Wilson to Jermaine Kearse touchdown.
Now, a team set up for dominance in this decade faces off against the team that dominated the prior decade.
Super Bowl XLIX will take place on Sunday, February 1st, 2015 at 6:30 PM ET. The game is located in Glendale, Arizona at University of Phoenix Stadium. It will be broadcast on NBC. For Seahawks coverage, SB Nation's Field Gulls will be your home for the next two weeks.
