Patriots Need a Running Back; Travaris Cadet Signs with the 49ers, Jonas Gray Cut by Dolphins

There is some activity on the running back front as a potential target signs with a different team.

The Patriots are looking to fill in a roster spot vacated by the placement of running back Dion Lewis on the season-ending injured reserve. A name that kept reoccurring was Travaris Cadet, a receiving back that spent the offseason and the first month of the season with the Patriots.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Cadet is now signing with the San Francisco 49ers. Rapoport says that three teams were interested in his services. Smart money is that the Patriots weren't overly interested in bringing Cadet back, or else he'd be on the roster.

Another name just surfaced: the Miami Dolphins have cut running back Jonas Gray. Gray was a great story during the 2014 season for his tremendous output in the regular season against the Indianapolis Colts, but a broken alarm clock kept him sidelined for the rest of the year. Gray wasn't seeing too much time in Miami, but he's a player that's now available.

Top names like Dri Archer and LaMichael James are still available, too.
