New England Patriots Updated Running Back Depth Chart After Injury to Dion Lewis

The Patriots have to move forward after losing one of their most dynamic players.

The New England Patriots lost running back Dion Lewis for the rest of the season with a torn ACL, but injuries to other positions have prevented the team from bolstering the position. Instead of filling Lewis' roster spot with another running back, they've elevated offensive lineman Chris Barker from the practice squad.

Additionally, Jamie Collins will miss another game with an illness, which resulted in the Patriots switching safety Dewey McDonald with linebacker Eric Martin from the practice squad.

The Patriots currently have just three running backs on the roster. Here is the depth chart. The Giants will be missing their best run stuffing defensive lineman so the Patriots could very well plan on running the ball for the majority of the game.

Running Back

1. LeGarrette Blount: Blount is the best back on the roster and he's been working to improve his blocking and receiving, but he's the rushing back whenever the Patriots need a carry.

2. Brandon Bolden: Bolden is primarily a special teamer, but he has the ability to offer some value as a running back between the tackles.

Receiving Back

1. James White: White will have to step up in a Shane Vereen-like capacity as a pure receiver and blocker. Don't expect much rushing from White.

2. Brandon Bolden: Bolden can catch and has experience being the top receiving back alternative in the past.
