The Patriots have been busy the last two days. Yesterday, the team released wide receiver Chris Harper, only to replace him with fellow receiver Damaris Johnson today. Now, New England has made two more transactions, according to ESPN's Field Yates:
Source: the Patriots claimed RB Trey Williams off of waivers. DE Trey Flowers to IR.
Trey Flowers was drafted by the Patriots in the fourth round of this year's draft (pick 101) out of Arkansas. The 22-year old had a slow rookie campaign and was only active for one game this season, the team's week 7 win over the New York Jets. Flowers played four snaps and did not register any stats during the game.
Him being inactive for the majority of the Patriots' games this season was more the result of depth at the position and not a health issue. Therefore, it comes as a little surprise to see the Patriots place the defender on injured reserve today. Apparently, he has caught the "Foxboro Flu".
To fill the open roster spot, New England has claimed running back Trey Williams off waivers from the Dallas Cowboys. The 22-year old went undrafted this year and was originally signed by the Washington Redskins. He gives the Patriots much needed depth at the running back position, which struggled ever since Dion Lewis tore his ACL.
