According to an anonymous source, the Patriots are meeting with running back Steven Jackson today.
Jackson, 32, spent last year with the Atlanta Falcons, where he rushed for 707 yards on 190 carries (a 3.7 YPC average). Once a perennial 1,000 yard rusher, Jackson fell off the last few years of his career before being released by Atlanta this past February.
At this point, all we have are rumors and a meeting; there's a very good chance that nothing comes out of this. And I don't think that anybody would contend that Jackson is the answer at running back. But on the plus side, he's healthy, fresh (so long as he has been keeping himself in shape), and should the Patriots keep him on a snap count and platoon him with Bolden and White, he could be productive - especially given his connection with McDaniels. New England's movement at running back will for sure be something to monitor over the next few days.
