Last Sunday, the New England Patriots did not only lose their first game of the season, they also lost two key players to injury in the process: tight end Rob Gronkowski and linebacker Dont'a Hightower. While Gronkowski missed today's session because of his knee bruise, Hightower returned to the practice fields today – which is definitely "good news of the day"-worthy.

The rest of the team's first injury report of the week looks as follows (via

CB Justin Coleman (Hand): DNP

DT Dominique Easley (Ankle): DNP

WR Julian Edelman (Foot): DNP

TE Rob Gronkowski (Knee): DNP

RB Trey Williams (Not Injury Related): DNP

WR Danny Amendola (Knee): LP

SS Patrick Chung (Foot): LP

LB Jamie Collins (Illness): LP

LB Dont'a Hightower (Knee): LP

TE Michael Williams (Knee): LP

DT Alan Branch (Elbow): FP

OT Marcus Cannon (Toe): FP

DE Chandler Jones (Abdomen): FP

Of the players not practicing, Easley is the biggest surprise. The second-year defensive tackle, who is in the middle of a very good season, apparently injured his ankle late in last Sunday's game. No injury was officially announced during the contest and the team might just play it safe. Given Easley's injury history, however, the situation is worth monitoring.

The other four players who didn't participate today, are no surprises. Edelman will obviously miss the game against the Eagles, while Gronkowski and Coleman, who is still struggling with a hand injury, probably will too. Williams was just signed yesterday and projects to soon join his teammates on the practice fields.

The best news of the day are that starters Danny Amendola, Dont'a Hightower and Jamie Collins were practicing. Amendola missed last week's game, while Collins missed the last four. While both have returned to practice last week, they were not yet ready to be declared active against Denver. It remains to be seen if their respective statuses will change over the course of the week.
