The New England Patriots have officially added running back Steven Jackson to the roster as the former Rams and Falcons rusher is at Tuesday's practice.
In order to make space for Jackson, the Patriots have cut defensive tackle Ishmaa'ily Kitchen. "Kitch" didn't make an impact on game day, but was signed as insurance once defensive tackle Dominique Easley was placed on season ending injury reserve. The Patriots have four other defensive tackles on the roster in starters Malcom Brown and Alan Branch, as well as back-ups Akiem Hicks and Sealver Siliga.
Jackson joins a depleted running back group and should immediately slot in ahead of Brandon Bolden and Joey Iosefa in the depth chart. His addition shouldn't affect the utility of receiving back James White. Look for Jackson to be available this Sunday as the Patriots take on the New York Jets.
Jackson is wearing his traditional #39. Montee Ball remains on the practice squad for the time being and will have to change numbers.
