The Patriots have signed former Saints running back Travaris Cadet, according to several sources.
Cadet, 26, was purely a passing back in the New Orleans offense, making 38 catches on just 209 snaps for the Saints last year. As New England looks to replace Shane Vereen, Cadet represents a guy with receiving experience that can hopefully play a similar role. While Cadet doesn't have the skill level that Vereen does, he's a much bigger back at 6'1," 210 pounds, and his limited use last year means he doesn't have much wear on his body. It's likely that he didn't receive a huge contract, so this could be a nice little pickup for the Patriots if he is able to grasp the offense.
Look for New England to bring in another back or two as free agency marches on, as the running back position is shaping up to be one of the more interesting camp competitions this summer. But with Cadet on the roster, the Patriots at the very least have a poor man's Vereen in the backfield.
