After signing Bradley Fletcher earlier today, the New England Patriots have landed another free agent cornerback. According to his personal twitter feed, the team has added four-year veteran Robert McClain:
Thankful to have the opportunity to continue my career with the @Patriots
— Robert McClain (@bobbymac36) March 18, 2015
The 5'9", 180 lbs. McClain was drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the seventh round of the 2010 NFL Draft out of Connecticut and spent his rookie year in Charlotte; appearing in all 16 games. However, he was released on the day of final roster cuts in September 2011 and was signed as a free agent by the Jacksonville Jaguars later that year. He spent only three weeks with the team and did not appear in any games.
In 2012, McClain was signed by the Atlanta Falcons. He started 15 games in his three years with the Falcons and recorded three interceptions and two sacks in the process.
The 26-year old, who had visited the Patriots on Tuesday, is a versatile defensive back, being capable of playing both cornerback and safety as well as performing on special teams. This might give him the nod over others on the roster.
