Anybody who has followed my writing for more than a few months know that I have been spearheading an aggressive, outspoken campaign to make August 3rd a national holiday. After all, it's not every day that Tom Brady is born, and that we aren't observing that sacred occasion with a day off work and barbecues and fireworks everywhere is a travesty. But I'm still fighting the good fight.
Well it may be time to add another holiday to the mix: March 2nd, aka Malcolm Butler Day. On this day just 25 years ago, the man who would make the single greatest play in the history of Boston sports was brought into this world. Whether or not he intercepted the surgical scissors from the nurse as she passed them to the doctor will forever remain a mystery, but the fact of the matter is that Butler is continuing the greatest offseason of his life with a birthday celebration today, and we all owe it to him to at least wish him a good one.
Happy Birthday, Malcolm. I have a funny feeling you're about to have the best year you've ever had.
