The New England Patriots have added a new name to their Special Teams staff, as they announced this morning that they have hired Ray Ventrone as an Assistant Special Teams coach.
Ventrone, of course, was a special teams darling for the Patriots between 2005 and 2008 after signing with the team as an undrafted free agent out of Villanova. He would go on to play for the Cleveland Browns from 2009 to 2012, and most recently, the San Fransisco 49ers from 2013 to 2014. He also spent part of 2007 on the Jets practice squad.
Ventrone joins a revamped special teams coaching staff. Scott O’Brien retired from the position in February, but will remain with the team in a different capacity. Joe Judge, O’Brien’s assistant, was promoted to the top position.
And who knows, perhaps once Ross Ventrone retires, he can join the Patriots staff too. His title can be Assistant to the Assistant Special Teams coach.
