As teams prepare for the 2015 NFL Draft, the NFL Combine is in the books and Pro Day season is underway. The Patriots attended two Pro Days yesterday: Minnesota and Virginia.
The Patriots were one of 22 teams at Minnesota. A year ago, 6th round draft choice Zach Moore (of Concordia-St. Paul) was in attendance at this Pro Day. Here are three prospects worth monitoring:
Maxx Williams, TE: Viewed as perhaps the best tight end in the 2015 class, Williams put on a strong Pro Day performance, doing positional drills. The Patriots might not have a need for Williams, but his versatility to play h-back and in the slot is intriguing.
David Cobb, RB: Cobb didn’t participate in Minnesota’s Pro Day, but is a late day two prospect worth monitoring. He’s a powerful, decisive one-cut runner who could be a valuable two-down player for the Patriots.
Cedric Thompson, FS: A late-draftable prospect, Thompson was stellar at his Pro Day. He ran the 40 in 4.48, had 10-foot-2 broad jump, run the 20-yard shuttle in 4.28 seconds and the 3-cone in 6.96 seconds. He even benched 225 lbs 21 times. Star of the day.
All 32 NFL teams attended Virginia’s Pro Day. An additional three prospects that the Patriots may have had an eye on:
1. Anthony Harris, S: Unable to participate because of injury, Harris is long but lacks bulk. Instinctive cover safety. Looks like a day two prospect.
2. Eli Harold, DE/LB: Harold is a long, athletically gifted, high motor edge prospect who delivered strong Combine and Pro Day performances. His stock is rising and he looks like a late day one, early day two pick. Can stand up or put his hand in the ground.
3. Max Valles, DE/LB: Stood on most of his combine numbers. Like Harold, is a long edge player who may transition to linebacker in the pros. Very raw. Timed between 4.8 and 4.9 in the 40-yard dash.
What are your thoughts on some of the prospects from these schools?
