Two days after placing the franchise tag on kicker Stephen Gostkowski, the New England Patriots have made their second move of the offseason: they have re-signed long snapper Tyler Ott.
Ott, the former Harvard long snapper, went undrafted after the 2014 NFL Draft and was signed by the Patriots as an unrestricted rookie free agent in May. He spent part of the offseason training program with the team but was ultimately released in August. He did not sign with another team and thus did not see any game action in 2014.
The 23-year old, who also played tight end at Harvard, is currently the only long snapper on the Patriots' roster (if we do not count linebacker/back-up long snapper Rob Ninkovich) as Danny Aiken, the team's starting long snapper of the last four seasons, is headed towards unrestricted free agency, which starts on March 10.
Aiken might ultimately return to New England to fight with Ott (and possibly others) for the right to long snap for the 2015 New England Patriots.
