With the 202nd pick in the 6th round of the 2015 NFL Draft, the New England Patriots have selected AJ Derby, tight end out of Arkansas.
Derby is a very intriguing, high-potential project tight end. He started his collegiate career at Missouri, and was a quarterback up until this past season, when he made the transition to tight end.
In his first year at tight end, he showed a lot of flashes with a bunch of big plays. At his Pro Day, he ran a 4.72 40 yard dash, 4.51 shuttle and a 6.99 3-cone drill. These are fantastic numbers for a tight end. He has great size and showed willingness as a blocker too. Derby probably will not come in and be a contributor from day one, but in a weak tight end class, he has some of the most intrigue at the position.
Here are a few of his senior year highlights:
The Patriots still have two remaining picks in the seventh round at 247 and 253.
