The New England Patriots made their 11th and final selection of the 2015 NFL Draft when they selected Alabama defensive end / outside linebacker Xzavier Dickson with the 253rd overall pick.
Dickson played primarily outside linebacker in Alabama's 3-4, and would likely be a hybrid player in New England's defense.
Dickson had some nice production in college with nine sacks as a senior. Standing at 6'3.5" and 260 lbs, he has good size and slightly above average athleticism for the position.
The selection of Dickson marks the fourth pick that the Patriots have made along the front seven in this draft, including two other edge players. NFL.com's pre-draft scouting report on Dickson:
Used as a 3-4 outside 'backer at times and as a defensive end when Alabama goes to its even front, Dickson has adequate skills as a pass rusher, but is average to below average against the run. Dickson doesn't feature the explosive, athletic traits to be a pass-rushing specialist and might not have enough strength at the point of attack to be an every-down defensive end.
