According to his agent, and reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter, New England Patriots punter Ryan Allen has signed a three-year extension, keeping him with the team through 2018.
Allen is entering his third season with the Patriots and he's provided New England with some quality punting, especially on the receiving end of some shaky long snapping.
The Patriots have made a point of solidifying their special teams over the past year. Special teamer Matthew Slater signed a two-year extension in November, while Bill Belichick selected long snapper Joe Cardona in the 5th round of this past NFL Draft. The team also made Stephen Gostkowski the highest paid kicker in NFL history.
Allen would have been a restricted free agent after the 2015 season, so the Patriots were being proactive with their extension. At this current point, left tackle Nate Solder, interior lineman Ryan Wendell, running back LeGarrette Blount, defensive tackle Sealver Siliga, and fullback James Develin are the main free agents after the 2015 season. New England is in a good position to set their roster for the next couple of seasons.
