Patriots Running Back LeGarrette Blount Injury Update: OUT with MCL Sprain

The Patriots' top running back has a fairly serious injury.

According to the Boston Globe's Shalise Manza Young, New England Patriots running back LeGarrette Blount has a sprained right MCL. This injury should sideline him for roughly a month as he heals and prepares to return for week 2. Blount's week 1 suspension appears to be a blessing in disguise so the bruising back can fully recover from his injury.

Blount is easily the team's most talented running back and he was having an impressive week in camp. Colts slayer Jonas Gray is behind Blount on the depth chart and will likely receive the full preseason to prove his worth, as well as a week 1 performance against the Steelers. Tyler Gaffney is another option, although he hasn't been practicing due to an apparent injury. Brandon Bolden could also be considered the top overall running back with Blount sidelined and could finally have his chance to play.

Don't be surprised if the Patriots make a move to obtain a running back like Pierre Thomas.
