The New England Patriots have waived wide receiver Chris Harper to open up a roster spot. The preseason standout flashed a lot of talent, but also showed that he has a ways to go before he's ready to win at the NFL level. The Patriots are likely to try and bring Harper back on the practice squad, unless another team claims Harper on waivers.
The Patriots were reported to have interest in signing fullback Joey Iosefa to replace the injured James Develin, so this is a very possible corresponding transaction. The Patriots had been using offensive guard Shaq Mason as the team's fullback in the opening week to little success.
Another option would be a possible promotion for Kenbrell Thompkins. With Harper off the roster, the Patriots are operating with just Julian Edelman, Danny Amendola, and Aaron Dobson at wide receiver. The Patriots have four tight ends on the roster and five running backs, and adding another fullback would tip the roster balance off the scale.
Thompkins has a rapport with Brady and could step in as an extra outside threat and blocker.
