The (13-4-0) New England Patriots will travel to face the (13-4-0) Denver Broncos.
The Patriots are looking to reach back-to-back Super Bowls for the second time in team history, and for the second time in the Tom Brady and Bill Belichick era. Standing in their way is perennial rival Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos. Another Super Bowl berth would push the Patriots to sole possession of #1 Super Bowl appearances in league history, breaking a tie with the Steelers and Cowboys.
New England is looking to exact revenge for a heartbreaking overtime loss this regular season, where undrafted rookie Chris Harper dropped a punt return, setting up a Broncos comeback. Tight end Rob Gronkowski suffered an injury in the 4th quarter that changed the complexion of the Patriots season. Gronkowski is healthy and the Patriots appear to have fixed most of their offensive struggles.
With a start against the Broncos, Tom Brady will set the NFL record with 31 playoff game appearances.
Broncos cornerback Aqib Talib used to play for the Patriots, will New England defensive tackle Sealver Siliga used to play for Denver. Both Patriots head coach Bill Belichick and offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels used to coach for the Broncos.
