Bill Belichick choosing a kickoff as one of the best plays against the Browns is Peak Belichick

New, comments

The Patriots head coach thinks a kickoff was a bright spot against the Browns.

The New England Patriots had an assortment of excellent plays against the Cleveland Browns. WR Chris Hogan made a few amazing grabs, as did TE Rob Gronkowski and TE Martellus Bennett. LB Elandon Roberts even threw Browns LT Joe Thomas into the backfield.

But in true Bill Belichick fashion, the Patriots head coach decided to sneak a kickoff into his breakdown of the top plays from last week.

“Kickoff coverage, again, gave us good field position,” Belichick explained. “As the team breaks out of the huddle as [K Stephen Gostkowski] is approaching the ball, makes it a little bit of a challenge for the return team to get everybody blocked properly.”

Because who doesn’t enjoy a nice special teams break down?

Belichick also covers a key 3rd down conversion to WR Julian Edelman, thanks to a nice block by LG Joe Thuney, the safety forced by LB Dont’a Hightower on a perfectly timed blitz up the middle, one of WR Chris Hogan’s big catches down the field because of a well-sold play action (“he’s a tough kid,” Belichick said about Hogan), and TE Martellus Bennett’s third touchdown grab of the day.
