He was in office eight years but the New England Patriots have had only one chance to visit President Barack Obama at the White House: after their Super Bowl XLIX victory over the Seattle Seahawks. However, according to President Obama, the Patriots will have a chance to visit Washington again soon.
Obama, who is known for being a Chicago Bears fan, has joined SiriusXM Radio’s "Sway in the Morning" to, among other things, talk football. The 44th President of the United States was asked who his pick for the Super Bowl would be – and he went with the team that visited him in April 2015:
Super Bowl is tougher [to pick]. But I gotta say at this point, you’d have to put your money on Brady again. I don't see any real strong teams. Seattle and Patriots have a rematch, that's my call.
At 7-1, the Patriots are the number one team in the AFC, so seeing them represent the conference in Super Bowl LI and win the game is not that bold of a statement at this point in time. The 4-2-1 Seattle Seahawks on the other hand have not looked like a Super Bowl contender just yet but have the talent – especially on defense – to be able to reach the NFL’s title game again.
The Patriots have beaten the Seahawks in the game that set up their meeting with the President and Obama thinks that it will also set up a meeting with his successor. Next Sunday, when the two teams square off in Foxboro, we will see a preview of what the President thinks will be this year’s Super Bowl.
