The New England Patriots have played only two of their AFC East rivals this season. On Sunday, they will face the third, when the team travels to New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium to take on the New York Jets.
The Patriots will not be at full strength, though, as a look at today’s injury report shows:
WR Matthew Slater (Foot): OUT
TE Martellus Bennett (Ankle/Shoulder): QUESTIONABLE
QB Tom Brady (Knee): QUESTIONABLE
WR Julian Edelman (Foot): QUESTIONABLE
TE Rob Gronkowski (Chest): QUESTIONABLE
WR Chris Hogan (Back): QUESTIONABLE
CB Cyrus Jones (Illness): QUESTIONABLE
DE Rob Ninkovich (Not injury related): N/A
After missing practice on Wednesday and Thursday, Tom Brady returned for today’s session. While he is listed as questionable, it would be a huge surprise if he did not start Sunday’s game in New York.
Brady was not the only returnee as Martellus Bennett also was back on the practice fields after being out yesterday. He, just like fellow tight end Rob Gronkowski, is listed as questionable. The team might still opt to activate only one of the two on Sunday. The same might also be true for wideouts Julian Edelman and Chris Hogan.
Two new players were added to the injury report today: Cyrus Jones and Rob Ninkovich. While Ninkovich’s absence was not injury related, Jones’ illness might keep him out this week. In turn, Justin Coleman would likely return to the game day roster.
One player who will not be there on Sunday is special teams captain Matthew Slater. He missed all three practices this week after suffering a foot injury last week against the 49ers.
The Jets’ final injury report looks as follows:
DB Nick Marshall (Ankle): OUT
DB Marcus Williams (Ankle): OUT
OL Nick Mangold (Ankle): QUESTIONABLE
DL Steve McLendon (Hamstring): QUESTIONABLE
