Former Patriots WR Brandon LaFell Close to Signing with a Conference Rival

The New England Patriots were interested in signing former Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Mohamed Sanu to take over for the recently released Brandon LaFell. Sanu signed a mega-contract with the Atlanta Falcons and the Patriots started to look elsewhere.

Well, it looks like the Bengals are going to reverse the process and sign LaFell to replace Sanu in their offense, per Pro Football Talk. LaFell will join former Patriots receiver Brandon Tate in Cincinnati.

LaFell was a key component of the Patriots run at Super Bowl XLIX, but a foot injury derailed his encore 2015 season. He missed a lot of the offseason, spent the first half of the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list, and appeared extremely limited in his return.

After a horrifying bout of drops in his first game against the Jets, LaFell settled down, but he proved unable to separate down the field and eventually lost playing time to wide receiver Keshawn Martin in the playoffs. The Patriots have signed former Bills receiver Chris Hogan to replace LaFell on the outside.

Best of luck to LaFell with his next team.
