The New England Patriots continue to work on their free agent notes and have brought in three players for workouts.
The Patriots brought in quarterback Ricky Stanzi as a possible option as a camp arm. Stanzi was a 5th round pick by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2011 and has spent time with the Jaguars, Texans, Giants, and Lions over that time frame. While he won't be displacing Jimmy Garoppolo as the back-up for Tom Brady, Stanzi could serve well as an additional camp body and preseason quarterback.
New England also brought in wide receiver Mike Williams. Williams was a 4th round selection by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2010 and was traded to the Buffalo Bills in 2014 for a 6th round pick. Williams was suspended for the first six games of the 2015 season and remained out of football. The 6'2, 220 lbs Williams is an imposing player when on the field, having averaged 910 yards and 8 touchdowns over his first three seasons in the league.
The final player the Patriots workout out was former Jets tight end Jeff Cumberland. The 6'4, 250 lbs Cumberland doesn't have a 400 yard receiving season to his name, but he categorizes alongside former tight end Scott Chandler as one who has plenty of success against New England. Four of Cumberland's 11 best games as a receiver came against the Patriots.
