The New England Patriots are looking in all places to fix the anemic run offense that floundered once running backs Dion Lewis and LeGarrette Blount were placed on the injured reserve. Per the Boston Herald's Jeff Howe, the Patriots are looking to sign fullback James Develin to a contract extension.
James Develin and the Patriots are closing in on a contract extension that could be done by Wednesday, per source.

The Patriots absolutely missed having Develin on the field in 2015 as no player could replicate his blocking ability. There were times when 4th string tight end Asante Cleveland would be the extra blocker out of the backfield, but the job primarily went to left guard Shaq Mason. Mason was too large and often clogged the rushing lanes, instead of opening up a space.
Develin is a restricted free agent, coming off a broken leg that he suffered during the 2015 preseason. His contract will likely be near the minimum as he fights for a roster spot.
