Pats Pulpit Podcast Episode 031: Patriots Are Prepared for an Unsexy Free Agency Period

The New England Patriots are continuing their Unsexy Offseason (TM) and will probably not be making any splashy moves over the first few days of free agency.

Bill Belichick, Nick Caserio, and company spent the past few days cleaning up the fringe of the roster- saying good-bye to those that weren't going to make the team, while tendering the youngsters that will fight for a roster spot in camp.

The Patriots are in the middle of the pack when it comes to space under the salary cap, so don't expect the team to win any bidding wars. Doug Martin? Nah. Marvin Jones? No way. Coby Fleener? Nuh-uh. It's the middle-of-the-road candidates that the Patriots will use to flesh out the roster. Unsexy.

It's likely that the extensions for players like linebackers Dont'a Hightower and Jamie Collins, as well as every other star on defense, is going to take place after the Patriots address the priority moves in free agency; it wouldn't make sense to limit the team's flexibility before free agency even starts.
