According to Brian Costello, the Jets beat writer for The New York Post, both the Patriots and Broncos have expressed interest in Free Agent running back Bilal Powell. The Dallas Cowboys have apparently expressed interest as well.
With Chris Ivory expected to sign with Jacksonville, the Jets will likely make a strong push to retain Powell's services, as he was the best back on that roster down the stretch in 2015. But look for New England to be right in the mix once Free Agency officially opens.
In terms of fit, Powell would be absolutely perfect in the Patriots system. He's a solid receiving threat, a better runner than Shane Vereen was, and represents an excellent compliment to Dion Lewis/James White. It remains to be seen whether Powell has any interest in leaving, and if the Jets want him back they are well positioned to make it happen, but getting Powell on board would put an excellent piece in place of an offense that lacked a true running threat last year.
Stay tuned.
