2016 Free Agency: Patriots S Tavon Wilson Joins GM Bob Quinn with the Lions

The New England Patriots 2012 2nd round pick wasn't a free agent for long. The versatile defensive back- primarily a safety- found a home with a familiar face in Detroit.

Safety Tavon Wilson never panned out to the 2nd round tag with which he was selected, but he was a core special teams player and was a viable 4th safety.

Former Patriots director of pro scouting Bob Quinn is now the general manager of the Detroit Lions and was likely instrumental in the transaction. Wilson will likely serve as a depth option for Detroit, with special teams value.

The Patriots were more inclined to keep special teamer Nate Ebner on the roster, while 2015 2nd round pick Jordan Richards picked up Wilson's snaps on defense.
