The New England Patriots have selected quarterback Jacoby Brissett with the 91st overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.
One pick after selecting N.C. State offensive tackle Joe Thuney, the Patriots have added Thuney's former quarterback in Jacoby Brissett.
The 6'3 3/4 Brissett is certainly a question mark for the Patriots, as now the team is locked in to carry three quarterbacks for the season, with Tom Brady and Jimmy Garoppolo roster locks. Brissett is a wildly inconsistent quarterback that lacks a lot of polish. He's not very accurate, he struggles under pressure, and he has the worst deep ball in the draft, per Pro Football Focus.
Brissett spent most of his year throwing passes shorter than 10 yards beyond the line of scrimmage, which raises more flags as to why he was so inaccurate.
Brissett started out with the Florida Gators under offensive coordinator Charlie Weis- who used to serve as Bill Belichick's offensive coordinator. Through Weis, Brissett became close with Bill Parcells- Belichick's old mentor- and the two have remained in contact with Parcells serving as his adviser through the draft process.
It seems clear that Parcells influenced Belichick with this pick.
