The New England Patriots have selected Arizona State WR Devin Lucien as the 225th pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.
I'm an admittedly big fan of Lucien, having previously stated that I would be willing to spend a 2nd or 3rd round pick on him. He has some of the best hands in the draft and runs a pro style array of routes, including every single route that Brandon LaFell was asked to run last season.
He's still growing as a player, but he collected 659 yards and 6 touchdowns on 35 receptions over his final five games, all against Power 5 opponents with winning records. He runs a 4.49 second 40 yard dash and a 6.93 second three cone while measuring at 6'1, 201 lbs.
The question remains as to where Lucien fits into the roster. I love the Patriots 4th round pick Malcolm Mitchell and I also really like Lucien. I have a hard time seeing both make the team, and I don't think head coach Bill Belichick would hesitate to take Lucien over Mitchell if Lucien deserved it.
New England seriously upgraded the wide receiver position this draft.
