We have another video of Arizona State wide receiver and running back D.J. Foster choosing the New England Patriots over the Arizona Cardinals and Houston Texans. This sort of access makes it easy to root for him to make a squad.
The video begins in the 7th round with Foster discussing how fortunate he is to be in the position to go to the NFL and how he enjoys the company of his family- and then he goes outside to speak with his agent on the phone.
"Devin Lucien?," Foster says while walking back inside after the phone call. "Patriots...wow. Is that their 7th [round] pick? That's dope."
Lucien and Foster were teammates this past season at Arizona State and the two were responsible for the 2nd and 3rd most yards from scrimmage in that offense.
Foster is seen speaking with his "local team Arizona Cardinals" and expressing his decision to stay in Arizona at 3:04 PM. At 3:33 PM, Foster is seen speaking with Patriots head coach Bill Belichick and that was when Foster's unlocked from Arizona and started to really consider his other options.
At 4:05 PM, Foster walks back inside and says, "I think Patriots are the best deal. I'm at five minutes [to sign with the Patriots versus] Arizona, Houston. Patriots offered us the most money."
At 4:09 PM, Foster is in his backyard saying, "It's between New England and Houston, I think." Foster eliminates the Cardinals because "It's just kind of how I want to play; do I want to be more of a running back? Do I want to be more of a receiver? I mean, I can do both."
At 4:13 PM, Foster answers his phone to speak with a Patriots personnel executive who exclaims, "Man, we can not be any more fired up that you're here right now." "I'm ready for it," Foster responds. "I'm excited. This is where I wanted to go in the very beginning."
Foster then recounts his phone call with Belichick, where the coach told Foster to be ready for minicamp.
The head coach's final words?
"Don't be out of shape!" Foster added with a laugh.
It's crazy that Foster went through all of the above in roughly an hour; I can't imagine what was going through his head. The video also reveals the Patriots intention with Foster, where they're going to allow him to make plays as both a rusher and a receiver.
Foster will certainly be a treat to watch in camp.
You can watch Foster tell his Grandma that he signed with the Patriots here.
