Last September, the New England Patriots have acquired underachieving former second-round draft pick Jonathan Bostic in a trade with the Chicago Bears. New England sent a 2016 sixth round selection west to get the linebacker on the team.
However, after only eight months in Foxboro, Bostic has now been traded again: according to a Patriots press release, the team has traded him to the Detroit Lions. Via Field Yates, the team will receive a conditional 2017 seventh round draft selection in return:

The 25-year old Bostic was unable to find success in New England. He appeared in 11 games but played only 40 defensive snaps, registering only one tackle on defense and two on special teams. With the Patriots signing Bostic's former teammate Shea McClellin earlier in free agency and extending Jonathan Freeny during the 2015 season, Bostic's spot on the roster became expendable.
New England traded the linebacker to one of its former front office members: former Patriots Director of Pro Scouting Bob Quinn, who played a key role in trading for Bostic in the first place, became the Lions' general manager this offseason.

The Patriots have also announced the signing of defensive lineman Anthony Johnson. The 23-year old LSU product originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent. After spending time with the Miami Dolphins and Washington Redskins – appearing in seven games – Johnson now joins New England to offer depth along a crowded defensive line.
