The New England Patriots host their first open practice of the season at 9:15am on Thursday and will last until 11:45am. There is plenty to follow during the first day.
The Patriots have placed seven players on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, which means that they won’t be at practice. Players average 16 days on the PUP list, and wide receiver Julian Edelman is expected to return to the field shortly.
Left tackle Nate Solder sustained a calf injury during the spring, while free safety Duron Harmon was spotted in a non-contact jersey to signify a minor injury. Defensive tackle Alan Branch has been added to the Non-Football Injury (NFI) list with a hip injury.
Running back LeGarrette Blount did not participate in spring practices, but he was on the field this week. Other players like running back Dion Lewis and guard Shaq Mason returned to practice in the spring, but were placed on the PUP list.
Players have been removed from the PUP list on the same day they were listed, so I wouldn’t be surprised if Lewis, Mason, and even Edelman were cleared during the first week of practices.
