This past week, the Celtics asked Patriots QB Tom Brady for help in landing one of the largest free agents in recent history in Kevin Durant. Brady was spotted with the Celtics front office and met with Durant to try and pitch the basketball star on the benefits of playing in Boston.
It didn’t work. Durant just signed with the Golden State Warriors. This is actually incredible.
The Warriors won the championship in the 2014-2015 season and made it all the way back to the Finals this year. They set a league record for most regular season victories. They have one of the three best basketball players on the planet and the reigning MVP in Steph Curry.
For reference, Durant is also one of the three best basketball players on the planet. He was also a member of the Oklahoma City Thunder that lost to the Warriors in the conference championship this year.
So now the Warriors, coming off a record-setting season, have added another ultramegasuperstar to the roster.
There’s almost no comparison in the NFL. It would be like Rob Gronkowski leaving the Patriots to sign with the Broncos- if the Broncos still had Prime Peyton Manning. Or, actually, it would be like Brady leaving the Patriots to join the Broncos.
I actually posed a question to Twitter to try and see if anyone could come up with a good comparison. Here’s what I got in return:
@PP_Rich_Hill T.Mathieu joining the Panthers (GState). Was eliminated by them. Panthers were SB favorites but lost to underdog (Denver/Cavs)

@PP_Rich_Hill Making the All-Pro team an actual team.

Former Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis joining the Patriots for the dream run at Super Bowl XLIX actually makes a great comparison, as is the Panthers adding defensive back Tyrann Mathieu.
I think the Patriots adding Steelers WR Antonio Brown on a one-year deal would also be a great comparison, as would the 2008 Patriots adding Chargers RB LaDainian Tomlinson.
What would be your dream addition to the Patriots?
