The New England Patriots (0-0) will host the New Orleans Saints (0-0).
Football is back and the Patriots will kick off the preseason by hosting the Saints after a couple days of joint practices. The Patriots and Saints have held joint preseason practices in 2010, 2012, 2015, and now 2016. New England has won the past three preseason matches.
Since head coaches Bill Belichick and Sean Payton are friends, New England and New Orleans like to share players. Last season, the Patriots signed running back Travaris Cadet as a free agent from the Saints. Cadet is now back with the Saints roster.
The Patriots also traded tight end Michael Hoomanawanui to the Saints last season in exchange for defensive lineman Akiem Hicks. Patriots linebacker Ramon Humber, edge defenders Rob Ninkovich Rufus Johnson, and safety Vinnie Sunseri are all former Saints.
