Live updates from day 12 of Patriots training camp on 8/10/16: Joint practice with the Saints

The Patriots will look to improve in practice against the Saints.

The Patriots are hosting the Saints for the second day of joint practices. New Orleans got the better of the Patriots during the first day, and to add injury to insult, the Patriots lost Rob Ninkovich for 4-6 weeks due to a triceps injury. Wide receiver Julian Edelman suffered an injury of his own that is not considered serious.

Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo struggled with his decision making against the Saints defenders, so maybe he will settle down during the second practice. Wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell emerged as a quality target late in the practice.

The players think that these joint practices will ultimately pay off in the long run.

“It's fun,” Patriots free safety Devin McCourty said about facing the Saints in practice. “We go at each other hard for the first week and half to two weeks of being out here. Practice ran the same way, we do the same drills, but just to see another offense, see something different that we don't get to see from our offense, and just being able to hit other guys is always fun.”

Hopefully the second day of practice will go better for the Patriots and that everyone can remain healthy.
