It would appear that Tom Brady will not be starting Thursday night's preseason matchup against the New Orleans Saints.
According to initial reports out of Foxboro, the plan is to sit Brady in order to give Jimmy Garoppolo additional reps with the first team offense. However, with Rob Gronkowski, Julian Edelman, Dion Lewis, Danny Amendola, and others also slated to sit for this game, the term "first team offense" should be taken with a grain of salt.
This won't be the first time Tommy B has sat out Game 1 of the preseason - nor is it the first time the report "Brady unlikely to play opener" has come out; something similar was reported last year, and Brady convinced the coaching staff to give him some reps against the Green Bay Packers. Tommy B went 1 for 4 before turning the reins over to Jimmy G. So don't put too much weight into this report - or pretty much anything I say, ever.
Still, how much time each QB sees will be an even more intriguing storyline than usual this season, so it's for sure something to monitor
