The New England Patriots defeated the Chicago Bears with a final score of 23-22 and Rich hosted a postgame recap and answered questions about the game on Facebook.
The player on everyone’s mind was tight end AJ Derby. Derby made multiple superb catches in traffic during the game and while his blocking needs improvement, he has done enough to catch the attention of the coaches. He will have a few more weeks with the team, but I think he’s stood out too much to stash away on the practice squad; he’ll either play for the Patriots, or he’ll be on another roster.
The defensive player that caught my attention was defensive tackle Anthony Johnson. Johnson was 310 pounds out of the draft before growing to 320 for the Dolphins, falling to 270 for Washington, and finding his happy place at 280 pounds with the Patriots. He showed tremendous burst and ability to disrupt the pocket and he’ll receive many more opportunities over the next two weeks.
